Food has always been a big part of Melanie Mulherin’s life, starting with her grandmother’s love of entertaining and her grandfather’s grocery store. So no one was surprised when she married a chef. She learned the art of making preserves from her mother-in-law and soon introduced her own Spicy Tomato Jam at their restaurant. Then she expanded her offerings and started selling them a local weekend market – and SaltSpring Kitchen Company<\/a> was born.<\/p>\n Spicy Tomato Jam remains the best-seller at SaltSpring Kitchen Company, although their other offerings are just as creative: Onion & Thyme Jam, Meyer Lemon and Lavender Marmalade, Pear & Ginger Chutney…and we’re just getting started.<\/p>\n We bought the Raspberry & Habenero Jam and used it as a glaze for ribs – oh, my!<\/p>\n Imagine this: living the life on Salt Spring Island in beautiful British Columbia, with it’s beaches, forests and mountains, and making scrumptious products to share with all of Canada.
